On Chongqing’s Rail Transit Line 2, trains pass through a building at Liziba Station. It sounds impossible until you see it. The scene has become one of the city’s best-known images.
The station is part of an active transit line, not a theme park, so good etiquette matters.
What are you actually seeing?
The rail alignment and building share a carefully planned piece of hillside infrastructure. The surrounding slope, roads and station structure help explain why the view feels so extraordinary.
Choosing a viewing spot
Use signed public pedestrian areas or designated viewing locations. Avoid walking onto the road, blocking station entrances, standing on barriers or leaning into traffic for a photograph.
The angle and light will vary depending on the time of day, weather and pedestrian crowding. Take a few minutes to understand the space before photographing.
How to include Liziba in your day
Rather than building an entire day around one photo, make Liziba one stop on a journey using Line 2 and nearby urban areas. Allow for transfers and be realistic about hills and station exits.
Quick checklist
- Save the Chinese station name: 李子坝.
- Check current Line 2 transit information.
- Use public areas for viewing.
- Be considerate of commuters and residents.
- Have a backup plan if rain or crowds limit photography.
